How to Practice for Job Interviews with AI
Simulate job interviews and get instant feedback on your answers with ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode
Advanced Voice Mode is the biggest leap forward in how we talk to AI. You speak, it listens and responds—no lag, no awkward pauses. You can interrupt, clarify, or change your mind mid-sentence. It’s like having a real-time phone call conversation that happens to be with ChatGPT.
One of the best ways to try it out? Interview prep. ChatGPT can play the role of a friendly, competent interviewer—asking questions, listening fully, and giving instant feedback on your answers. It’s private and pressure-free. Perfect for anyone who wants to sound more polished without dealing with awkward mock interviews.
From rambling alone to refining your story
❌ Before:
You wrote out responses, practiced in your head, or asked a friend to help. It felt awkward, and you had no idea if your answers were any good.
✅ After:
Now you can simulate real interview dynamics. You speak your answers out loud, cut in when needed, and get constructive feedback in real time without the pressure of a live audience.

Chef’s Insights: Pro Tips & Limitations
🧑🍳 Pro Tips:
Interrupt anytime - You don’t have to wait for it to finish talking. Just speak, and ChatGPT will pause and respond to your new direction—just like a real conversation
Try it hands-free - On mobile, enable Background Conversations in settings to keep talking even if you switch apps or lock your screen. Great for walks or multitasking
Mix languages mid-sentence - Advanced Voice Mode supports over 50 languages and now handles accents much more naturally. Feel free to switch between languages as you talk
Desktop vs. Mobile features - On desktop, you can start or end the conversation at any time. On mobile, you can do even more:
Upload or take a photo mid-convo
Share your screen to give visual context
Clip a moment from the voice chat
Add closed captions to what’s said
Rephrase like a pro - After answering a question, say: “How could I have said that better?” or “Can you help me tighten that up?” You’ll get instant coaching on clarity and tone
⚠️ Limitations to Keep in Mind:
No tools, code, or images - Advanced Voice Mode doesn’t support plug-ins, image generation, or code interpreter even if you have them enabled
Shorter memory - Voice Mode uses a shallower context window and often acts like it’s “starting fresh.” It may not remember custom instructions or chat history from earlier sessions
Partial prompt uptake - The model starts forming its reply before you finish talking. If you add a key detail at the very end of a long prompt, it might miss it
Usage caps (especially on Free plan) - Free users get a few hours of voice use per day. Plus users get near-unlimited access, but even then, long sessions auto-end after 1 hour. If you go way over, ChatGPT may switch to a lighter model in the background
